모처럼 해외여행을 갔는데 비가 내려 여행을 망쳤다.

관광이야 그렇다 치고 그 비싼 항공료가 아까워 속이 쓰리다.

이런 경우를 노린 마케팅 전략이 나왔다.

비 때문에 해외여행을 망친 고객들에게 보상금을 준다는 항공사가 등장한 것.

독일 항공사(German flag carrier) 루프트한자는

휴가 여행객들에게 휴가 기간 중 비 오는 날에 대한 보상을 해주기로

(offer holidaymakers compensation for rainy days on holiday) 했다.

대상은 독일 출발 자사 항공편을 예약하는 사람들(people who book flights with them from Germany)에 한한다.

 

비 때문에 휴가를 망친 승객은 비가 온 날 하루당 20유로(약 3만5000원)씩

최대 10일간 보상을 청구할(claim 20 euro for every rainy day, for up to ten days) 수 있다.

열흘 내내 비가 왔다면 최대 200유로(약 35만원)까지(up to a maximum of 200 euros) 보상 받을 수 있다.

프랑스의 두 여행사 ‘피에르 에 바캉세즈(Pierre et Vacances)’와 ‘프랑스록(FranceLoc)’은

지난달부터 고객들에게 비슷한 내용의 보상책을 제공(offer customers a similar deal)하고 있다.

루프트한자의 이 ‘햇빛 요금제’(sunshine rate)는

8월18일까지 구입하는 항공권에 적용되며(be available until 18 August),

9월1일부터 10월31일까지 마드리드, 로마, 뉴욕 등 36개 목적지로 출발하는 항공편들에 한해 유효

(be valid on flights departing between 1 September to 31 October to 36 destinations such as Madrid, Rome, New York and so on)하다.

여행객들은 일단 휴가에서 돌아온 뒤(once travelers return home)

여행 바우처(숙박·식사 쿠폰), 탑승권, 비 온 날 목록을 보험사에 제출하면

(send their travel vouchers, boarding passes and a list of rainy days to the insurer) 된다.

독일의 날씨 웹사이트(a German weather website)인 www.wetteronline.de를 통해

휴가 여행객이 제시한 날짜에 해당 휴가지에 1평방미터당 최소한 5밀리미터 이상 비가 왔다는 기록

(rainfall records of at least five millimeters per square meter at the holiday destination on the specified days)이 확인되면

보상 대상이 될 수(be eligible for compensation) 있다.

전 세계 항공사들이 금융위기 여파로 고전하고(as airlines globally struggle in the teeth of the f inancial crisis) 있는 가운데

루프트한자도 지난해보다 승객이 거의 5% 감소하는 등 부진한 실적을 공시

(post a weak set of results with passenger numbers down nearly five percent on the previous year)하게 되자

마케팅 전략으로 이 같은 파격적인 보상책을 제시하고 나섰다.
