버핏과 리 귈리앤 회장

‘투자의 귀재’로 불리는 미국의 억만장자 투자자(the US billionaire investor) 워렌 버핏의 한 마디에

주가가 72퍼센트 가까이 급등한(surge nearly 72 percent) 회사가 있다.

대박을 터뜨린(hit the jackpot) 회사는 미국 기업이 아닌 중국의 한 남성복 제조업체(a Chinese suit maker).

버핏의 한 마디 덕분에 뜻하지 않은 이득을 거둬들이고(reap the unexpected rewards) 있는 회사는

중국 항구도시 다롄(大連) 북동쪽에 본사를 두고 있는(based in the northeastern port city of Dalien)

남성복 제조업체 ‘다양 트랜즈’(大揚創世)다.

사연인즉(the origin and circumstances of the case) 이렇다.

뛰어난 투자 결정 때문에 ‘오마하의 현인’으로 알려져 있는

(be known as the ‘Oracle of Omaha’ for his astute investment decisions) 버핏은

지난달 말, 자신과 마이크로소프트 창업자 빌 게이츠, 즉 세계 최고 부자 2명(the world’s two richest)이

이 회사의 양복을 입는다고(wear the company’s suits) 공개했다.

이후 다양 트랜즈의 주식(shares in Dayang Trands)은

한 달도 안 되는 사이에 70퍼센트 이상 급등했다(have soared by more than 70 percent in less than a month).

버핏은 다양 트랜즈의 웹사이트에 올려진 비디오를 통해(in a video posted on the website of Dayang Trands)

“나는 모두 중국에서 만들어진 9벌의 양복을 갖고(have nine suits all made in China) 있다”면서

“나머지 내 양복들은 내다 버렸다(throw away the rest of my suits)”고 말했다.

버핏은 이어 다양 트랜즈의 리 귈리앤 회장을 언급하며(referring to Dayang Trands’ chairwoman Li Guilian)

“나는 내 외모에 대해 찬사를 들어본 지 오래됐는데(It’s been a long time since I got compliments on how I looked)

리 여사의 양복을 입은 이후로는 늘 찬사를 듣는다”고 극찬했다.

또 “빌 게이츠와 내가 옷 가게를 열어서(start a clothing store)

다양 트랜즈가 만든 양복을 팔면(sell suits made by Dayang Trands)

언젠가 우리는 부자가 될 것(someday we might even be rich)”이라고 농담까지 덧붙였다.

포브스 잡지에 따르면(according to Forbes magazine)

빌 게이츠와 버핏은 각각 400억 달러와 370억 달러의 순자산을 갖고 있는

(have net worth of 40 billion and 37 billion dollars respectively) 것으로 추산되고 있다.

한편 앞서 언급된 비디오가 8월25일 올려진 이후(since the above mentioned video was posted on August 25)

이 회사 주식은 주당 8.55위안에서 지난 17일 현재 14.67위안으로 올라 장을 마감함으로써 거의

72% 뛰어올랐다(have surged nearly 72 percent--from 8.55 yuan then to a close of 14.67 yuan on September 17).

다양 트랜즈는 지난 16일 상하이증권거래소에 접수한 공시를 통해

(in a statement filed with the Shanghai stock exchange)

“버핏은 우리 회사의 고객일 뿐 투자자는 아니다(be only a client, not an investor)”면서

“버핏이나 그의 회사 버크셔 해서웨이와 공개할 만한 비즈니스 관계도 갖고 있지 않다

(do not have any disclosable business relationship with Buffett or his firm Berkshire Hathaway)”고 밝힌 바 있다.

비디오는 다양 트랜즈의 창사 30주년을 맞아 축하하기 위해 녹화된

(b recorded to congratulate the company on its 30th anniversary) 것으로 전해졌다.

다양 트랜즈는 중국 전역 11개 도시에 20개의 직판매장을 갖고

(have 20 outlets in 11 cities across China) 있다.
