유별난 아이들(eccentric children)이 있다.

식당에서 여기저기 뛰어다니고 소리 지르고(yell and run around).

엄마는 나 몰라라 한다.

어린아이 음성의 날카로운 소리(the shrill sound of a childish voice)는

칠판을 손톱으로 긁는 것처럼(resemble nails scratching across a blackboard) 들리기도 한다.

미국 노스캐롤라이나주(州)의 한 식당이

어린아이들의 소란을 금지한다는 현수막을 내걸고(post placards prohibiting children's uproar)

제한을 가하기로(draw a line in the sand) 해 논란을 일으키고(cause controversy) 있다.

폭스뉴스에 따르면, 올드솔티 레스토랑은

"소리 지르는 아이들(screaming children) 용납하지 않습니다(be not tolerated)"라는

경고문을 출입문에 붙여놓았다.

 

주인은 영업상 이득(a business boon)을 위한 부득이한 조치(an unavoidable measure)라고 말한다.

그 결과, 더 많은 손님을 끌어들이는(bring in more customers) 효과를 보고 있다.

손님들은 "아이들이 소리 지르는 것을 듣는(hear a bunch of kids screaming) 게

즐겁지 않은(be not enjoyable) 것은 사실 아니냐"고 반문한다.

참을 수 없는(cannot put up with it) 경우도 많다며 식당의 결정에 지지를 보낸다(give the restaurant support).

그러나 식당의 냉정한 조치(the cold-hearted action)가

일부 부모들에겐 분노를 일으키고(stir passions to some parents) 있다.

아주 터무니없는 불법이라고(be downright illegal) 비난한다.

아이들은 원래 다 그런 건데, 출입 자체를 못하게 하는 건 비인간적이라고 입을 모은다(say with one mouth).

식당 주인은 불쾌감을 주는 아이를 조용해질 때까지 밖으로 데리고 나가달라고

(take the offending child outside until they pipe down) 부탁하는 것이라고 하소연한다.

 "당신 아이를 통제하지 못하면(can't keep your kid under control) 다른 손님들을 배려해줘야 할 것 아니냐"고 말한다.

플로리다주의 한 해산물 레스토랑에는 더 험악한 간판(a more forbidding sign)이 바깥에 걸려 있다고(be posted outside) 한다.

"제멋대로인 어린이들(unruly children)은 요리해서 먹어버릴 거예요(will be cooked and eaten)."
