"세금 안 내는 사람들, 택시 못 타게 해야 한다고 생각합니다"라고 외칠지 모르겠다.

대만 정부가 실제로 tax(세금) 상습 체납자들은 taxi(택시)를 타지 못하게 하기로(ban repeat tax evaders from taking taxis) 했다.

1000만대만달러(약 3억8300만원) 이상 체납하고도(owe more than Tw＄10 million in tax)

호화생활을 하다가 적발된(be found to be living in extravagant style) 사람들에게

최근 '반(反)사치' 명령을 내렸다(issue 'anti-extravagance' orders).

상습 체납자들에게 택시·고속철 등 고가의 교통수단 이용을 금지시키는

(ban habitual tax delinquents from using expensive transportation means such as taxis or high-speed trains) 한편,

한 차례 구매에 2000대만달러(약 7만7000원) 이상 쓸 수 없도록(cannot spend more than Tw＄2000 on a single purchase) 했다.

부자 상습 체납자들의 지출을 추적해(monitor the spending of the rich repeat evaders),

명령을 어길 경우엔 구금에 처하도록(face detention if violating the order) 할 방침이다.

 

 

대만 정부의 이 같은 조치는 3억대만달러(약 115억원)를 체납한 한 재계 거물(a tycoon who owes Tw＄300 million in tax)이

호화업소에 자주 드나드는 것으로 밝혀진 데 대한 국민들의 격렬한 반응에 따른(due to a public outcry) 것이다.

대만 정부는 여론이 비등하자(public opinion is agitated)

체납세금 징수를 위한 새로운 시도로(in a fresh bid to collect overdue tax)

상위 세금 체납자 명단을 처음으로 공개하고(unveil the list of top tax evaders for the first time),

국민들에게도 탈세자들을 잘 감시해(keep a close eye on tax dodgers)

낭비적이고 사치스러운 행동을 하면(engage in activities considered wasteful and luxurious) 즉각 신고해줄 것을 당부했다.

김영희 여당당 대표와 사사건건 충돌하는(clash with each o ther on everything)

박영진 남하당 대표도 쌍수를 들고 환영할 일이다.
