"남자는 딸꾹질만 하는데, 여자는 딸꾹질하면서 방귀도 뀔 수(can hiccup and fart at the same time) 있다.

여자는 청소기 돌리면서(vacuum the floor) TV도 보고, 전화도 하고, 우는 아기도 달랜다(soothe a crying baby)."

뇌세포는 남자가 더 많이 갖고(have more brain cells) 있다.

하지만 뇌세포 간의 나뭇가지식 연결은 여자가 더 잘 돼 있다(have more dendritic connections between brain cells).

더 큰 뇌량(腦梁·좌우 뇌 반구 중간의 신경섬유 다발)을 갖고 있어(have a larger corpus callosum)

남자보다 좌우 뇌 사이에 더 빨리 자료를 유통시킨다(transfer data between the right and left hemisphere faster than men).

남자는 좌뇌에 치우쳐 있는 데(tend to be more left brained) 비해

여자는 뇌 양쪽 모두에 더 큰 접근성을 갖고(have greater access to both sides) 있다.

 

 

리비아에 대한 미국의 군사행동에서도(in the military operations against Libya)

남녀 성별 차이(the gender gap)가 드러났다(come to the front).

남자들인 국방장관, 합참의장, 백악관 비서실장은 비행금지구역 설정 기본작업을 하는 데도 반대

(argue against laying the groundwork for a no-fly zone)했다.

이슬람국가 정권교체를 강요하는 데(force regime change in a Muslim land) 따른 부담,

군사행동의 불분명한 법적 근거(an unclear legal basis for action) 등을 이유로 내세웠다.

아주 더딘 속도로 진행되던(move at a glacial speed)

군사개입 과정을 밀어붙인(push the process toward military intervention) 이들은

힐러리 클린턴 국무장관, 수전 라이스 유엔대사, 사만다 파워 국가안보회의 보좌관 등 여성들이었다.

"인도적 재난 사태를 막기(stop an humanitarian catastrophe) 위해

당장 군사행동을 개시해야(initiate military operations) 한다.

다양한 전략적 관점에서(from a variety of strategic viewpoints) 대응해야 한다"는 여자들의 주장이

남자들의 단조로운 목소리를 압도해(overwhelm the men's monotonous voice)버렸다.

여자들은 "남자에게 왜 젖가슴이 없는 줄 아느냐"고 묻는다.

"'이중의 부담'을 견뎌낼(carry the 'double burden') 능력이 없기 때문"이란다.
