지난 6월25일 사망한 뒤 황금관에 안치된(lie in state in a gold casket)

 ‘팝의 황제’ 마이클 잭슨의 시신이 황금관 통째로 두꺼운 콘크리트에 밀폐될(be encased in deep concrete) 예정이다.

묘지 도굴범, 무덤을 파헤치고 시신을 훼손하는 자들을 막기(deter grave robbers and ghouls) 위해서다.

영국 일간지 데일리 미러는 29일(현지시각)

마이클 잭슨의 형 말론 잭슨과의 단독 인터뷰를 통해

(in an exclusive interview with Jackson’s elder brother Marlon) 이 같이 전하고,

잭슨의 관이 콘크리트로 봉인되기 전에 비탄에 잠긴 잭슨의 세 자녀가 쓴 작별편지들

(goodbye letters written by Jackson’s three grief-stricken children)이

관 속에 넣어질 것(be placed inside his coffin)이라고 밝혔다.

이 신문에 따르면 잭슨의 시신이 안치된 황금관은

내달 3일 미 캘리포니아주 글렌대일 포리스트 론 묘지의 홀리 테라스 그랜드 모설리엄에 매장될

(be buried in Holy Terrace Grand Mausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park) 예정이며,

매장에 앞서 가까운 친지들만 참석한 가운데 언론에 공개되지 않는 45분간의 최종 장례행사가 열리게

(the 45-minute last funeral service will be held away from the media, limited to close relatives and friends) 된다.

이 장례식에서 잭슨의 세 자녀가 쓴 편지들이

잭슨의 트레이드마크인 한 짝의 흰색장갑과 함께

(alongside with the singer’s trademark single white glove)

금으로 도금된 관 속에(in the gold-plated casket) 넣어지게 된다.

 

 

잭슨의 형 말론에 따르면

 잭슨의 시신은 어깨까지 닿는 늘어뜨린 머릿단의 특수가발이 씌워져 있으며

(be fitted with a special wig to give him flowing shoulder-length locks),

분장사(a make-up artist)가 잭슨의 얼굴을 마치 마지막 인사를 위해 무대에 나가는

(take to the stage for his last bow) 것처럼 화장을 시켜놓았다고 한다.

오후 7시로 예정된 해질녘의 이 감동적 장례식이 끝나고 나면

(after this emotional sunset funeral scheduled for 7 pm)

잭슨의 관은 즉시 두꺼운 콘크리트로 봉인될(will be sealed up with deep concrete) 예정이다.

그리고 감지기와 연결된 CCTV 카메라들이 어떤 묘지 침입자들도 경비원들에게 알리게 될 경보장치를 가동

(activate an alarm to warn security guards of any would-be trespassers at the grave)하게 되고,

이 것으로써 이승에서 잭슨의 마지막 쇼 커튼 콜(Jackson’s final curtain call for his last show in this world)도 끝나게 된다.

잭슨의 이날 비공개 장례식에선

‘소울의 전설’ 아레사 프랭클린(‘Soul Legend’ Aretha Franklin)가

묘지 옆에서 노래를 부를(will sing at the graveside) 예정이며,

잭슨의 절친한 친구였던 가수 다이애나 로스와

모타운 레코드 설립자 베리 고디(Motown record label founder Berry Gordy)도 자리를 함께 한다.

 

 

묘지는 높은 담으로 둘러싸여(be surrounded by high walls)

대중에 공개되지 않게(be closed to the public) 되며,

어느 방문자든 신분증을 제시해야(any visiting has to show ID) 한다.

잭슨의 장례식은 당초 잭슨의 51번째 생일인 8월29일로 예정돼 있었으나

(be scheduled for Aug. 29, Jackson’s 51st birthday)

생일을 인정하지 않는(do not recognize birthdays)

여호와의 증인 신도(a Jehovah’s Witness)인 어머니 캐서린의 반대로 연기됐었다.

이에 대해 형 말론은 “하느님이 그를 창조해준 바로 그 날 영면에 들게 하고 싶었다

(want to lay him to rest on the day the Lord created him)”며,

“하지만 어머니의 뜻을 거역할(act against my mother’s insistence) 수는 없었다”고 밝혔다.
